What is the ‘other’ trying to show you? I find this encounter fascinating. The leopard seal sees the diver as one needing assistance and then tries to teach the diver how to hunt and eat penguins. The leopard seal saw the diver as having the same needs as he did… how can we understand each other’s ‘otherness?’ without trying to impose our needs as their needs?

“My name is Bond, James Bond.” Please enjoy the world premier of the “Mean Machine” promotional film. It was inspired by the James Bond film introductions, and the Andy Warhol screen tests. It turned into a sexy little film with guns, motorcycles, cigarettes and everything else mean you might imagine. This was created by Now Records. I have been in the studio with the gentlemen at Now Records in Nashville, TN. We have made a lovely song called “Mean Machine.” It will be available for download in the coming weeks! Stay tuned.
Grinderman came to Nashville on their latest tour through the states; they performed for us in the strange and awkward concert hall “the Cannery Ballroom,” (the stage sits at the short end of an L-shaped room.) Friend of the band, Larry ‘Ratso’ Sloman traveled with the band and wrote up his notes for a Spin Magazine piece, “On the Road with Grinderman.” The expose shows off the gastronomical and musical journey the band endured during their time stateside. They stopped over in Memphis after their Nashville date(11/19/10) and visited Graceland where Nick Cave Nick scrawled, “A secret that I have that will shock the world.” The article highlights the dry crass sense of humor that the ‘gentlemen’ all possess, and the glory of the rock and roll road.
What can you say, without saying a word? What can your body express? Actors and dancers are often more cued in than your average musician on how the body can communicate. Let this piece be an inspiration for musical performers to expand their vocabulary to include the language of body movement.
Natalie Portman does a short scene to visually explain the craft of acting. This film is part of a series “14 Actors Acting.” They have added a soundscape to the scenes, but watch them once without audio to simply view their performances in the raw. Great stuff.

Some other actors featured include: Javier Bardem, James Franco, Tilda Swinton, Anthony Mackie, and Michael Douglas to name a few.
Kink Ador has been rocking the stage over the past month, and making quite a dent in that old automobile known as Nashville. My buddy Lyndon Jackson took some stellar photos at our 8 off 8th performance. Here is one of your favorite bass player. I love the 8 off 8th nights because we get to show up, rock out, and then its over in 15 minutes! If you don’t like one of the 8 bands performing, don’t worry, it will be over quickly. Plus all the cool kids come and hang out in the back room at the Mercy Lounge. These Monday nights are a great way to hear everyone’s 3 best songs, and nothing else. High octane previews of all the artists. hooray!
In response to a list I saw in this month’s American Songwriter magazine, I decide to put together my own list of “10 Songs I Couldn’t Live Without.” There are certain songs that just hit you at the exact right time, move your body, and open your world… Here are ten “songs” that rocked my world. (They are not technically all songs, since some are instrumental…but it’s my list, and a tribute to my schizophrenic taste.)
Darling Nicki, Prince, Purple Rain Do You Love Me? Nick Cave, Let Love In Graceland, Paul Simon, Graceland Requiem Pour Un Con, Serge Gainsbourg Windowlicker, Aphex Twin Bith-Aneth, Masada, Live in Jerusalem, 1994 Zombie, Fela Kuti Twist and Crawl, The English Beat,What is Beat? Waiting Room, Fugazi, 13 Songs Pit Stop (Take Me Home), Lovage
To consider himself a mediocrity was hardly any better than believing he was a genius: Fyodor doubted the first and conceded the second, but more important, strove not to surrender to the fiendish despair of a blank sheet. Since there were things he wanted to express just as naturally and unrestrainedly as the lungs want to expand, hence words suitable for breathing ought to exist.
